Fashion Influencer Accused of Copying Wedding Speech: 'It's Nearly Identical'

The Controversy Surrounding Danielle Bernstein’s Engagement Speech

A TikTok user has raised questions about whether fashion influencer Danielle Bernstein copied another social media star’s speech during her engagement party. This accusation has sparked a heated debate online, with many users pointing out the striking similarities between the two speeches.

Danielle, who is known for her popular fashion blog and brand WeWoreWhat, found herself in the spotlight after a TikTok user named Bai claimed that her engagement speech was nearly identical to a speech given by another bride on the platform. Bai noted that she noticed the similarities because she had seen the other bride's video just a day before.

While Bai did not provide any evidence that Danielle had actually watched the other bride’s video, she created a comparison video that highlighted the similarities between the two speeches. In one instance, the first bride said, “And really the most easy decision, outside of marrying this man next to me, was who we wanted here on this very special day.” Danielle’s version was almost identical: “The easiest decision of all besides the man I'm standing next to and saying yes to was who we wanted to have here to celebrate us.”

Another part of the first bride’s speech included the line, “I love you all, we love you all, and you are so a part of our story.” Danielle echoed this sentiment with, “I love each and every one of you so much and I'm so grateful that you're such a big part of our story.”

Social media users were quick to comment on the apparent similarities, with many expressing disbelief at how similar the two speeches were. One user wrote, “It's not illegal but it's SO WEIRD,” while another praised Bai, saying, “This is so good girl you're a full detective.”

Some users speculated that both women might have used artificial intelligence to write their speeches, which could explain the similarities. One comment suggested, “Honestly… I feel like they both Googled 'good bride speech' and got the same ideas.” Another added, “It seems pretty obvious that they both asked ChatGPT to write a speech for them.”

A History of Controversy

This isn’t the first time Danielle has faced criticism for her actions. Last month, she was criticized online for sending her guests a list of dresses to buy to ensure they stayed on theme for her engagement party. In a viral TikTok video, she explained that she curated a list of dresses that matched the theme and dress code, allowing guests to choose what they wanted to wear.

While she claimed this made it easier for guests, many users were upset by the idea of dictating what people should wear. Some called it an overreach, while others questioned the authenticity of her approach.

Danielle, who started her blog WeWoreWhat in 2011, has built a successful career as a fashion influencer. She has also released a book titled This is Not a Fashion Story: Taking Chances, Breaking Rules, and Being a Boss in the Big City, which became a New York Times bestseller.

Over the years, she has faced several accusations of copying other brands and designers. In 2018, she was accused of copying designs from brands like Foundrae and Tiffany & Co. after releasing a jewelry collaboration with Lulu DK. She later removed some products from circulation.

In 2020, she faced backlash again when she was accused of copying a small Latina-owned business. After the controversy, she donated the items to healthcare workers and took down her posts promoting them.

The Ongoing Debate

As the conversation around Danielle’s engagement speech continues, many are questioning whether her actions crossed a line. While some argue that it’s not illegal to draw inspiration from others, others believe that it’s important to give credit where it’s due.

With the rise of AI-generated content, the lines between originality and imitation are becoming increasingly blurred. As more people turn to technology to craft their speeches, the issue of originality is likely to remain a topic of discussion for years to come.
