Family Matters Star Appears Tired in Mug Shot

Darius McCrary's Recent Legal Troubles

Darius McCrary, best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the popular 1980s sitcom Family Matters, has recently found himself in legal trouble. The 49-year-old actor was seen in a mug shot released by the Oakland County Jail, showing him looking visibly exhausted.

According to authorities, McCrary was attempting to enter Mexico from the United States when he was arrested. His initial court appearance in mid-October in Southern California resulted in a denial of bail. He is currently being held in a San Diego-area jail after being taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents on October 5.

A judge determined that McCrary remains a flight risk in the ongoing case, which involves a felony warrant issued in Michigan. The warrant stems from a missed court date related to unpaid child support. Authorities are now planning to extradite McCrary back to Michigan to face the charges.

McCrary initially expressed a desire to represent himself without the help of a court-appointed lawyer. However, the judge appointed a public defender to assist with his case.

Conflicting Accounts of McCrary’s Presence in Tijuana

There have been conflicting reports about why McCrary was in the Tijuana area. Prosecutors stated that his agent claimed he was there to scout real estate opportunities. On the other hand, the public defender involved in the case suggested that McCrary was in the area to work on a charitable project involving house construction.

A representative for McCrary told People that he should not be considered a flight risk, as he has no ties to the Tijuana region. The rep explained that McCrary accidentally ended up in a different country due to a mix-up regarding where to meet his partner for the Esperanza program, a charity focused on building houses.

McCrary is set to appear in court in Michigan on November 14 to address the charges against him.

Past Legal Issues and Child Support Controversy

McCrary has faced legal issues in the past, particularly following his contentious divorce from his ex-wife, Tammy Brawner. The couple filed for divorce in 2017 and finalized it in 2019. During the proceedings, the court ordered McCrary to pay $1,366 per month in child support. Brawner, an actress and former Harlem Globetrotter, was granted full legal and physical custody of their daughter, Zoe, who was three years old at the time.

The court also mandated that McCrary attend programs for alcohol and drug abuse, as well as batterers' intervention, for the next year. He was given supervised visitation with his daughter for six hours every Sunday for the first 10 visits, after which the conditions would be re-evaluated by the court.

Ongoing Legal Challenges

McCrary’s recent arrest has raised questions about whether he is once again facing legal consequences over alleged child support evasion. His history of legal troubles adds to the scrutiny surrounding this case.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how McCrary will navigate these challenges and what the outcome of his court appearances will be. For now, the actor finds himself in a difficult position, caught between legal obligations and personal circumstances.
