Cheryl Hines on Larry David and Trump: Still in Touch?

Cheryl Hines, best known for her role as the wife of Larry David on the popular HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, has been in the spotlight not just for her acting but also for her personal life. Recently, she revealed that she no longer keeps in touch with her former co-star due to their differing political views, especially concerning her support for her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and his alignment with the Trump administration.

In an interview on Billy Bush’s podcast on October 28, Hines shared that she hasn’t spoken to Larry David in a while. She mentioned that their last conversation was likely at the Season 12 finale event last year. Despite this, she emphasized that their relationship remains warm. “I love Larry, and I think Larry loves me,” she said. “It’s just politics; it makes conversations.”

Hines, who is 60 years old and known for her work on Suburgatory, also opened up about her personal journey following her separation from her ex-husband, Paul Young, in 2010. She revealed that she met Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at an event in 2011, after first encountering him in 2005. The two eventually married in August 2014.

The actress described how her perception of Kennedy changed over time. In 2011, she recalled seeing him “completely differently.” “I looked at him and thought, ‘Oh wow, he's actually handsome,’” she said with a laugh, noting his “blue eyes.” She added that they had a long conversation during which he shared stories about his life and accomplishments, leaving her very impressed.

When asked if there was a kiss at that event, Hines responded coyly, “Perhaps.” She then confirmed, “There were fireworks.”

Hines’ comments about her relationship with David came months after Laurie David, the ex-wife of Larry David, publicly criticized her on social media in January. Laurie wrote on Threads, “Cheryl Hines in her best and most watched performance yet as the 'dutiful, adoring wife' setting women back decades.”

Additionally, comedian Tig Notaro recently spoke about distancing herself from Hines. The two had been close friends and even co-hosted a comedy podcast called True Story from 2020 to 2023. On the Breaking Bread With Tom Papa podcast, Notaro explained that she felt the need to step away after RFK Jr. announced his presidential campaign.

“I just felt like I needed to step away,” she said. She added that beliefs she once considered minor “gnats on the arms” had become harder to ignore.

Hines’ personal and professional life continues to draw attention, especially as she navigates the complexities of her relationships and public image. Her journey from a beloved television actress to a figure associated with high-profile political figures highlights the evolving nature of fame and personal choices.
