Owen Wilson, the 56-year-old actor known for his role in The Wedding Crashers, was recently spotted at a soccer match in Los Angeles, cheering alongside his two sons. The outing took place as reports continue to circulate about his alleged estrangement from his daughter.
At the game, which featured the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) against Austin FC, Wilson was seen wearing matching jerseys with his sons, Ford, 14, and Finn, 11. The actor appeared to be in high spirits, laughing and cheering as he joined other parents on the sidelines. This moment of father-son bonding stood in contrast to the ongoing speculation about his relationship with his third child, Lyla.
Wilson shares Ford with his ex-girlfriend Jade Duell, while Finn is the son of his relationship with personal trainer Caroline Lindqvist. Lyla, born in 2018, is the daughter of Varunie Vongsvirates, with whom Wilson was in a long-term relationship before they parted ways.
In 2019, Vongsvirates spoke to Daily Mail about her relationship with Wilson, revealing that he had not been involved in Lyla’s life and had never met her. She described his absence as "not involved at all" and stated that he had even checked the "no visitation" box in court. While no official response has been received from Wilson’s representatives, the situation remains a topic of public interest.
Despite this, Wilson has shown a strong commitment to his sons, Ford and Finn. In May 2024, he shared insights into how he connects with them through golf. "I’m trying, it’s hard sometimes with kids because it’s like me, as a kid, you want to play soccer or football and stuff. Golf does not come easily," he admitted to People. However, he found a way to engage with his sons by visiting Topgolf, where they enjoy the experience together.
Wilson noted that both of his sons are developing their skills on the course. "Ford really does have a good swing. And then Finn, his grandfather was actually apparently the town champion in Sweden where he lives, so he’s got it in him," he said. He expressed hope that one day, the family could reunite in Ireland for a golfing trip.
In June, Wilson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and shared some lighthearted updates about Finn, who has already started exploring unconventional career ideas. "My youngest, first he wanted to be a DJ, and then he said he wanted to open a prank shop. He even had the name of the prank shop: Wilson’s Wizzbangs. You know, he had the gun where you grab it and it could give you a little shock," he recalled.
Wilson has also spoken about the importance of storytelling in his parenting. In a 2021 interview with Esquire, he shared how much he enjoys telling stories to his sons. "Sometimes telling the stories at night, you do take a little pride that these guys are into this story!" he said. One of his sons even suggested that he should turn the stories into something more.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote his 2017 film Cars 3, Wilson discussed his experiences as a parent. He described how little Finn idolizes his older brother, Ford. "It's unbelievable. I mean, anything Ford says is just, like, the funniest thing ever, and I can make and joke and it's, like, crickets. It's like nothing from those guys."
Wilson also joked about how he anticipates the challenges of teenage years. "I'm already sort of seeing how they're gonna be as teenagers, where they're gonna be sort of be ganging up on me."
While he appears to be fully invested in Ford and Finn's lives, the actor has faced criticism for his apparent absence from Lyla's life. Vongsvirates has spoken out about the emotional impact of this distance, emphasizing that Lyla needs a father. "It’s ironic how [Owen] keeps getting these father roles, he's playing a father in his new movie, and he's never met his own daughter," she said.
In 2018, a paternity test confirmed that Wilson is indeed Lyla’s biological father. Despite this, the relationship between the actor and his daughter remains unclear. Vongsvirates last posted on Instagram in October 2022, celebrating Lyla’s birthday with a sweet photo of the mother-daughter duo.
