Jonathan Ross Cautions on Boundaries with Celebrity Traitors Bosses

Jonathan Ross has shared an interesting insight into the restrictions placed on him by the producers of Celebrity Traitors, a BBC game show. The 64-year-old presenter was given a detailed list of topics he is not allowed to discuss after revealing some behind-the-scenes secrets about the series.

Ross mentioned that he had previously disclosed information about scenes that were cut from the final edit of the A-list edition of the show. He admitted that he understood why such restrictions were put in place, as they are meant to protect the integrity of the program for viewers.

“I’m not allowed to talk about the stuff that’s edited out, which I can understand why,” Ross said, reflecting on the situation. He added that the show's staff had reminded him of his contractual obligations to remain silent on certain matters.

“When I started talking about it last week, they sent us all a kind of list saying, ‘Just to remind you, these are the things in your contracts you’re not allowed to talk about’,” he explained during an episode of his Reel Talk podcast.

He continued: “So, I’ll skirt around it as much as possible and not break any rules. But there’s a fairly comprehensive list, and most of it I can see is to protect the integrity of the game as a viewing experience for people, so it makes perfect sense.”

The Independent has reached out to representatives of Celebrity Traitors for further comments.

This comes after Ross spoke about the show on his podcast, where he mentioned that there were “so many funny things Alan Carr did and said” which he felt should have been included in the first episode. He added, “There’s something that happens later on that I know, which should be in but isn’t in. And it’s like, there’s this Alan Carr gold waiting out there to be spun into them.”

Ross is one of the Traitors on the show, working alongside singer Cat Burns and comedian Alan Carr to "murder" or banish the team of Faithfuls without being detected. After six episodes, 10 Faithfuls have either been banished or “murdered,” with no Traitor having been successfully uncovered.

Statistically, this means the current cast is the worst-performing set of Faithfuls in the show’s history. Another Faithful was on the verge of being eliminated at the end of the last episode, with Ross, Burns, and Carr preparing to eliminate another celebrity in plain sight.

Comedians Lucy Beaumont and Nick Mohammed, as well as Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, are all in danger of being eliminated. The next Faithful to be “murdered” will be revealed this week.

Celebrity Traitors continues on Wednesdays and Thursdays on BBC One at 9pm.

The Independent has always maintained a global perspective. Built on a firm foundation of superb international reporting and analysis, the publication now enjoys a reach that was unimaginable when it was launched as an upstart player in the British news industry. For the first time since the end of the Second World War, and across the world, pluralism, reason, a progressive and humanitarian agenda, and internationalism—values that the Independent stands for—are under threat. Yet, the Independent continues to grow.
